How to Make Donuts with a Donut Maker

A donut maker allows you to make donuts from the comfort of your own home. With some creative thinking, and a little bit of trial and error, you can churn out endless batches of yummy donuts that are sure to impress your friends and family. If you’re still new to making donuts at home, here are some tips on how to make donuts with a donut maker.

Choose Your Doughnut Maker

The best donut makers for you will depend on your specific needs. Consider the size of the family and whether or not you are looking for other types of doughnuts besides the classic, glazed doughnut. You'll want to think about how often you will use the maker and how much space is available in your kitchen. An expensive, heavy duty maker might be fine if you make your own doughnuts weekly, but it would take up too much space if used only once a month.

Choosing the Right Batter

The two most popular types of donut batters are yeast-based and cake-based. The difference between the two types is that the cake-based batters contain eggs and other ingredients, which lead to a denser and richer donut, while yeast-based batters typically have more water in them, which leads to lighter, airier donuts. Each type has its advantages. Cake based batter requires less prep time than yeast based batter because you can let it sit at room temperature before frying it up.

Deep Fry

- Fill a deep fryer halfway up with oil and preheat it on high. I would suggest using a thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature of the oil while you are frying, as each stove is different. Oil will smoke when it gets hot enough, so watch for that too. If your deep fryer has a clip in place for the handle of the donut, I would recommend placing it before putting any donuts in the pan.

Getting Creative

-Sift together the dry ingredients. -Combine eggs, buttermilk, vanilla and melted butter in large bowl. -Add sifted dry ingredients to liquid ingredients and mix until just combined. -Fill each doughnut cavity 3⁄4 full. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes or until they spring back when touched gently on top. Cool donuts on wire rack for 5 minutes before glazing or dipping in chocolate frosting if desired.

The Best Toppings

Everyone loves donuts, so what better than making them at home? I wanted to show you how easy it is, and that there's no need for a ton of equipment - just the right size donut maker. It was so much fun, and the best part is that everyone gets their own topping! Here are some of my favorite combinations.

Bake Instead of Fry?

Donut makers are not hard to use, making them great for people who would like some variety in their diet. For starters, heat up the oil according to the directions provided by the donut maker. If using a fryer, make sure it is filled no more than halfway. Once you have heated up your oil, carefully lower in your donuts and cook until they are golden brown on both sides.

Tips and Tricks

Don't forget, the donut maker is only for making donuts and not for cooking them. To make sure your donuts come out perfect, be sure to grease the surface of the pan. Use shortening or butter and make sure it coats every inch of it. This will prevent your donuts from sticking or being undercooked on one side. And finally, try using different fillings and toppings such as jelly, nutella, whipped cream or sprinkles.
