How Many Cups of Water Does a Brita Filter Hold?
Some might say that there’s no such thing as too much H2O. They have plenty of reasons to say so, especially if they’re running low on fresh water supplies at home or at work. If you need more water, consider getting a Brita water filter to reduce the amount of impurities in your tap water and extend the life of your filters. But, how many cups of water can you get from each filter? The answer might surprise you! Here’s how many cups in a Brita water bottle.
Choosing the right filter for your needs
Brita filters have been around for decades, and for good reason. They provide the best-tasting water in the industry and help reduce water waste by filtering tap water to taste better than bottled water. Brita filters are designed to filter up to 40 gallons of water before needing replacement. But not all filters are made equal, and some can only filter as little as four cups at a time. It’s important to know how many gallons your filter will hold before purchasing one. The more gallons it holds, the less often you’ll need to change your filter! So, what is the answer to how many cups in a brita water bottle? A Brita filter typically holds 10 cups of filtered water before needing replacement. That means that if you're using this type of filter to drink 8 glasses per day, then you'll need to replace your filter about every two months.
Using tap water instead of bottled
More than half the world's population lives without access to safe water. Despite widespread efforts to increase water quality, bottled water is still an expensive luxury item for many. To solve this problem, check out our blog post on how many cups in a brita water bottle. You can save money and drink healthier water by using a reusable Brita filter. Every time you fill up your Brita pitcher with tap water, it gets filtered as well as purified. Fill up your pitcher once or twice per day and you'll have enough clean water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, etc.
Saving money by using tap
According to the PUR filter company, A basic indicator for how often you need to change your water filter cartridge is every 40 gallons or two months, whichever comes first. This means that if you're using the recommended 2.64 cups per day, and filtered 30 days out of the month (720 cups), then your filter would last approximately 1.97 months or around 4.83 weeks. Each cup of tap water counts as one gallon; therefore each time you fill up your Brita pitcher it will yield 36 cups. With this number in mind, we calculated that an average-sized BRITA pitcher holds 954 cups of tap water.
With this information in mind, when should you change your filter? It all depends on how much tap water you use in relation to the amount of time it takes for the filters' effectiveness to wear off - just like gas mileage on a car.
Is tap better than filtered?
Not all water is equal. Tap water can vary in quality depending on where you live, and sometimes the chlorine levels may be too high for what your system can handle. Running chlorinated tap water through a filter gives you purified drinking water with no extra salt or other substances from tap. It also removes lead, iron, copper, manganese and zinc from the water supply. If you have highly-sensitive skin or health problems that are exacerbated by contaminants in your drinking water then filtered water is likely a better option for you than unfiltered tap. A good rule of thumb is to use one gallon per person per day. The amount will depend on the size of your household and the number of people in it though, so be sure to take these factors into account when calculating how much water you need to get each day.
What’s the difference between pitcher filters vs. faucet filters?
Pitcher filters are activated when you pour water into the top, whereas faucet filters are left on your sink to filter the water as it goes down. Pitcher filters tend to use bigger filtration methods and therefore can hold more gallons at one time. For example, a pitcher filter will typically hold approximately three gallons or 12 cups worth of water. Faucet filters don't need to be refilled as often and take up less space on your countertop. However, they're not always ideal for larger households with several people who might want filtered water. If you want to filter several gallons of water all at once, go with a pitcher filter instead.
In Summary...
It can be easy to make the mistake of assuming that, because you're getting filtered water from your brita filter, you are replacing all the water you drink. However, with an average filter life span is three months, that would mean you need to replace it twice a year. If you want to replace all the water you drink then a brita bottle will only get you through 10 cups worth (with an 8-ounce cup). So even if you have the 28-ounce bottle and use it every day for one month, that's only 168 ounces or 16 cups worth of filtered water. You could also say that on average, a person should consume 2 liters of water per day. With a monthly cost of $10 for each brita filter cartridge which gives about 300 gallons of filtered water, this means you spend about $0.32 per gallon which is about the same as bottled water.
