Rotary Cheese Graters

In the 20th century, rotary cheese graters, also known as electric cheese slicers or automatic rotary food choppers, were invented. These gadgets replaced the old fashioned way of making hard and semi-hard cheeses by hand.

The Inspiration

A few years ago, we had a problem. Our old rotary cheese grater was rusting away in the drawer and nothing about it pleased us. We searched high and low for the perfect rotary cheese grater that we could happily keep on our countertop, but to no avail. Out of desperation, I asked my father to make one for me. He told me about the possibilities of plastic and how many different variations there were for a product like this - I was overjoyed!

History of Rotary Cheese Graters

The rotary cheese grater was invented by Jerry Mariotti, an American mechanical engineer. A spin-off of the old hand-held manual crank style cheese graters, the spinning grate takes the work out of its usage. The first rotary cheese grater was created in 1968 and has been manufactured by Lesco Corporation ever since.

Material and Tooling

There are many materials and tools that are used for rotary cheese graters. Stainless steel is the most common material for rotary cheese grinders, but you can also find them made from aluminium or plastic. The stainless steel blades are sharper and more durable than other materials, but it can be easier to clean. Plastic blades will wear down over time and need to be replaced, but they're less expensive and can be more comfortable to grip because of their softer material.

Assembly Process

A rotary cheese gratter is a handy tool that will make the task of shredding or slicing cheeses and other products far easier than any other method. The way it works is that one rotates the barrel until there is only one solid layer of product left to deal with, then pulls it out with a slice for a block-shaped final product. It does a great job of dealing with soft materials, hard materials, or semi-soft materials such as blocks of parmesan or mozzarella.

Inspection Process

Each of our rotary cheese graters are fully inspected and cleaned to ensure the highest quality product is delivered to you. The inspection process consists of the following: a thorough examination of the overall construction, function, and condition; removing rust spots or other surface defects; inspecting for sharp edges; checking for breakage or damage, such as chipped teeth on a grating surface; making sure all rivets are secure.

Application of Product

Easily shred your hard cheeses with this solid and durable rotary cheese grater. Made of heavy duty plastic, you'll never have to worry about warping or breaking as it's built to last. Clean up is easy since it comes apart and goes in the dishwasher. The ergonomic design makes using the device a breeze, even for children or older adults. Plus, the handle design protects your hands from getting scraped while slicing!
